Zai Spada are the first skis on the world made of stone.
Simon Jacomet and his team probably haven't expected such a success when designed now really popular Spada Stone Skis.
Based in the village of Disentis, Switzerland, he got the Laurus of a great inventor. He even called his creation 'a special limited edition Spada skis'. The Spada is actually the Romanic word for sword. When I look at these skis they indeed remind me of some swords.
Stone Skis are actually out of the regular skis. They are crafted using the most advanced technologies in the skis industry.
Using stone in skis may sound savage! But let's say that the stone is not a usual one. It is a Grisons granite used on very smart bases. Actually, there has been applied the best characteristics of this stone. Due to Technocarbon of Munich’s new Carbon Fibre Stone technology, stone gets fantastic characteristics: it is flexible, extremely durable, resilient and compressive. The core of the skis is made of aluminum which is meant to dampen vibration. The skis also have very well calculated weight, which makes it possible to balance them. At the same time it can retain the shape indifferent of the vibrations' strength.
The final masterpiece features extraordinary mobility and maneuverability. It has a perfect grip with the snow without rattling the wearer into the ground. Besides, it's good looking and smooth on the go. I haven't tried them yet, but these are the confessions of the ones who did.
Initially, there were produced 500 pairs per year. But the popularity of these skis have settled its production on industry bases. So, swallow hard and hope to be one of the 500!
P.S. And a final word from the masters (took from the Jacomet’s Zai website) “It makes fast and precise slaloms seem like child’s play, like effortlessly gliding on rails.”
